Therma-Tru Door Installation: The Hialeah Owner’s Guide

Therma-Tru door installation in Hialeah typically runs between $450 and $1,400 installed, depending on whether we’re replacing a door slab, a pre-hung unit, or retrofitting hardware and weatherstripping around an existing frame. Most Therma-Tru replacement jobs we handle are done the same day once the slab or component is on our truck. The way homeowners usually find us: a door that suddenly sticks in the frame after years of working fine, daylight you can see through the weatherstrip, or a threshold that’s let one too many summer downpours seep into the foyer.

We’re an independent installer, not a Therma-Tru corporate entity. That means we stock Therma-Tru-compatible slabs, frames, sweeps, and hardware, and we’re authorized to install the full lineup without voiding your original product warranty.

Which Therma-Tru Models This Applies To

Therma-Tru makes three main residential lines we install regularly across Hialeah: the Classic-Craft series (fiberglass with that deep wood-grain texture), the Smooth-Star series (clean, paint-ready fiberglass), and the Pulse series (polyurethane core, slightly lighter). Each series uses slightly different slab thicknesses and hinge prep patterns, which is where a lot of general contractors get into trouble. A Smooth-Star slab cut to Classic-Craft hinge specs will never sit right in the opening.

Here’s a compatibility gotcha we deal with constantly: Therma-Tru changed their hinge prep depth on Classic-Craft models around 2016. If your home was built before that, the slab on the showroom floor may need to be custom-mortised, which changes both the cost and the skill required. The easiest way to identify your model: look at the hinge-side edge of the slab for an engraved label, usually with the series name and a 4- to 6-digit order code. If that label is painted over or missing, measure the slab thickness. Classic-Craft runs 1.75 inches, Smooth-Star 1.75 inches, Pulse 1.5 inches.

On the OEM versus aftermarket question: for slabs and frames, we recommend genuine Therma-Tru. The fiberglass skin density and the foam core formulation are spec’d to the frame tolerances, and aftermarket slabs rarely match the thermal performance. For hardware like sweeps, thresholds, and hinges, quality aftermarket equivalents from brands like Endura or Pemko perform as well or better and often cost 20 to 30 percent less. We’ll tell you which is which on the estimate.

Signs Your Therma-Tru Door Installation Is Failing

  • Door sticks at the top corner, hinge side. This almost always means the top hinge has sagged, usually because the frame screws were set into drywall instead of the framing behind it. It’s a 15-minute fix with longer screws, but left alone it’ll warp the slab.
  • You can see daylight through the weatherstrip. The compression seal has flattened. In Hialeah’s humidity, seals made before 2018 tend to lose their rebound in about four to five years, which means your AC bill is subsidizing the outdoors.
  • Water staining on the interior floor after heavy rain. The threshold cap or the corner sweeps have failed. On slab-on-grade homes in Westland and Palm Springs, this is the single most common Therma-Tru issue we see, especially on doors facing east into the afternoon storms.
  • The door swings shut or open on its own. The frame is out of plumb, or the slab was never properly adjusted after settling. Concrete-block homes in Hialeah settle differently than wood-frame, and door frames need periodic re-shimming.
  • Drafts near the bottom on windy days. The door sweep has worn down or the threshold screws have loosened. This is a five-minute repair if caught early, and a slab replacement if the bottom rail has been chewing against an uncapped threshold for a year.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what Therma-Tru door installation costs look like in Hialeah right now, parts and labor included:

Job Type Typical Range
Door sweep or weatherstrip replacement $75 - $180
Threshold replacement (aluminum or composite) $190 - $340
Slab-only replacement, existing frame $450 - $750
Pre-hung full door replacement $850 - $1,400

What drives the range: slab size (36-inch is standard, but many Hialeah block homes have custom 32- or 34-inch rough openings), whether we need to add a side panel, and whether the existing frame needs re-shimming or full replacement. Written estimates are free, and we give you a line-item price before any work starts. Every Therma-Tru installation carries the Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we come back and make it right, no bill.

DIY or Call Us?

Replacing a door sweep, tightening hinge screws, or resetting a threshold cap are all reasonable DIY projects if you’re comfortable with a drill and a pry bar. Those three fixes handle maybe a third of the failing-door calls we get. But here’s where DIY goes sideways: a Therma-Tru slab weighs 70 to 90 pounds, and when it’s not set into the hinges correctly, the fiberglass skin can crack at the hinge mortise. We see it more often than we’d like. Also, adjusting the reveal around a door frame so it seals evenly in Hialeah’s humidity is genuinely harder than it looks. If you’re removing hinge pins while the slab is still hung, that’s the moment to stop and call someone. Ed Winslow grew up in Westland working on these exact block homes, and he’ll tell you the same thing: the door is the easiest thing to damage on a house, and the hardest thing to get perfect. Call (850) 998-3090 and we’ll take a look for free inside the county.

What Neighbors Say About Winslow Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"We sat out a hurricane behind the windows Ed put in. The gusts threw a neighbour's trampoline down the street and the loudest thing in our house was the kettle. I rang him after to say thank you and he answered his own phone, same as always."

TThaddeus Okonkwo
★★★★★

"Ed measured every opening himself and walked me through the product approval paperwork before I signed anything. When the inspector came he found the notice of acceptance taped inside a window like it should be and passed us first visit."

RRosalind Beaumont
★★★★★

"The old aluminium sliders howled every afternoon storm and swelter came straight through the glass. The new impact sliders shut with a sound like a bank vault and the back rooms finally hold their temperature."

PPercival Whitcombe
★★★★★

"Someone tried the back slider while we were away. The glass crazed and held, the alarm never had to earn its keep, and the police report reads better than it might have. Ed came out the next morning to check the frame himself."

CCornelius Adeyemi
★★★★★

"Three big companies quoted us and every one sent a salesman with a leased truck. Ed turned up in a truck with his own name on the door, quoted less, and his crew were the same faces on day one and day nine."

YYolanda Betancourt
★★★★★

"He replaced the front door and the garage door in the same week, both rated for impact, and lined the frames up so straight my level had nothing to say. My wife stopped hearing the highway from the front room."
